The Overview page gives you a high-level snapshot of how your commitments are performing across services. It’s designed to help you quickly answer three main questions:
Am I saving money?
How well are my commitments being used?
Where do I still have gaps or risks?
Key Metrics
Effective Savings Rate (ESR): Your overall discount rate compared to on-demand pricing. A higher ESR means you’re extracting maximum value from your commitments.
Savings: The actual dollar savings realized in the last 30 days.
Monthly Active Commitments: The total amount of committed spend currently active.
Coverage & Utilization: At a glance, see how much of your spend is covered by commitments (coverage) and how much of those commitments are being used (utilization).
Service Coverage
This section breaks down coverage across AWS services. You’ll see:
Baseline Usage (total service usage)
Covered Usage (usage benefiting from commitments)
Uncovered Usage (remaining on-demand usage, where savings opportunities exist)
Effective Spend vs. On-Demand Cost
This helps you pinpoint which services have strong coverage and where gaps may remain.
Commitment Utilization
Here you can track how efficiently each type of commitment (Savings Plans or Reserved Instances) is being used. A utilization rate close to 100% means you’re making the most of your purchase, while lower rates highlight commitments at risk of waste
Commitment Insights
While the Overview provides the big picture, Commitment Insights give you actionable details. These insights highlight patterns, anomalies, and time-sensitive opportunities so you can take action before savings are lost.
Types of Insights
Commitment expires soon: Alerts you to expiring commitments so you can plan renewals or adjustments.
Notable drop in utilization: Identifies commitments that are suddenly under-used, signaling potential waste.
Notable rise in utilization: Highlights where utilization is trending up, useful for forecasting needs.
SP return window closes soon: Reminds you of pending deadlines to return or exchange Savings Plans.
Underutilized Commitment: Surfaces commitments consistently delivering less value than expected.
Commitments Table
Each insight is tied to detailed entries in the Commitments table.
Clicking on any item in the Commitments Insights table opens a detailed view. This provides additional context about the specific commitment, including its service, terms, utilization, and account information. These details help you quickly understand why an insight was flagged and decide whether action is needed.
This table allows you to filter, search, and prioritize actions on commitments most relevant to your savings strategy.
This module gives you visibility into how your commitments are performing today, once you understand your current state, the next step is to take action.
