Overview
PointFive-generated opportunities come with calculated figures for potential savings, risk, and effort, and more. In some cases, users may want to adjust these figures to better reflect their context. Editing allows users to override the defaults on a per-opportunity basis while preserving PointFive's underlying detection.
Accessing edit mode
To edit an opportunity:
Open the opportunity page
Click the More actions menu in the opportunity header
Select Edit Opportunity
Editable fields
Potential savings - The potential savings value can be overridden in one of two ways:
Absolute - enter a specific amount
Relative - enter a percentage adjustment relative to the resource cost.
Notice: The new value cannot exceed the full cost of the underlying resource. If a higher value is entered, the system displays a validation message and prevents saving.
Risk - Override the risk level for the opportunity.
Effort - Override the effort level for the opportunity.
Resetting to original values
Within the edit flow, each modified parameter can be reset to its original PointFive default. The reset option is available alongside each editable field.
Modification indicators
Once an opportunity is edited, PointFive surfaces the change in several places.
Modified badge
A Modified badge appears:
On the opportunity page, next to the opportunity title
On the corresponding row in the Opportunities page
Hovering over the badge reveals who made the edit and when.
Parameter indicators
For each parameter that was changed, a small icon appears next to the value on the opportunity page. Hovering over the icon reveals the original PointFive default.
Activity log
Every modification is written to the opportunity's activity log. Each entry captures the parameter that was changed, the previous and new values, the user who made the change, and the timestamp. Modification entries are filterable in the activity log under User Activity.
Impact on aggregations
Modified values are reflected in all platform aggregations - including total potential savings, total saved, dashboard metrics, and reports. This keeps aggregated views aligned with the figures users see on individual opportunities.
When to edit vs. create a manual opportunity
Edit a PointFive opportunity when PointFive has detected the issue and the detection is sound, but the figures need adjustment to match the user's context.
Create a manual opportunity when PointFive hasn't detected the issue, or when the user took a remediation path that differs meaningfully from PointFive's recommendation.
